Eric Baughman Obituary, Cause of Death – Beloved Marine Veteran Remembered at 40
Eric Matthew Baughman, 40, of Blairsville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, Pennsylvania. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Eric is being remembered for his dedicated military service, devotion to his family, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.
Born October 10, 1985, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Eric was the son of Joseph and Cynthia A. Baughman. He was a graduate of Keystone High School, Class of 2004, and later worked in forensic security at Torrance State Hospital.
Service to his country was an important part of Eric’s life. He proudly served more than four years in the United States Marine Corps, completing two tours in Afghanistan. He later continued his military career with 14 years of service in the Army National Guard, including a tour in Jordan.
Through his years in uniform, Eric demonstrated a deep commitment to duty, loyalty, and his fellow service members. After his military service, he continued supporting the veteran community as a member of VFW Post #5821 and American Legion #0407, both in Blairsville, as well as the Department of Pennsylvania Marine Corps League, Rolling Rock Detachment #738 in Latrobe.
Despite his many accomplishments and years of service, Eric’s family remembers his role as a father as the most meaningful part of his life. His son, Dexter, was his greatest joy and his proudest accomplishment.
Eric is survived by his parents, Joseph and Cynthia Baughman of Marble; his wife, Jennifer L. (Sulkosky) Baughman, whom he married on June 6, 2022; his son, Dexter Baughman of Blairsville; siblings Cody Friend (Morgan) of Punxsutawney, Joseph Baughman (Amanda) of Natrona Heights, and Heidi Zacherl (Gene) of Oil City; maternal grandfather Jodia Scales of Leeper; three nephews, Landon, Chandler, and Acetyn; three nieces, Maddison, Olivia, and Norma; and his beloved pets, Payton, Abby, Gunner, Keno, and Stormy.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Eva Scales, and paternal grandparents, Francis and Mary Baughman.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, Pennsylvania. A funeral service honoring Eric’s life, legacy, and faithful military service will take place Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Scott Fay officiating.
Interment will follow at Blairsville Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Blairsville Military Honor Guard as a final tribute to Eric’s service to his country.
